About Rina Latif

The Rina Latif label was established over thirty years ago by renowned designer Rina Latif. What began as an experimental “lab” working closely with a handful of skilled artisans started with the ancient craft of hand block printing. Over time, the lab evolved into a studio dedicated to exploring unique embroidery techniques, giving rise to RL’s signature tapestry embroidery, celebrated for its extraordinary attention to detail. Inspired by botanical forms and nature, each creation reflects the subtle nuances and tones of the natural world through intricate craftsmanship.

In 2002, the label presented its first fashion show, marking a significant milestone in its journey. The collection showcased Rina Latif’s collaboration with Bangladeshi weavers, focusing primarily on muslin, one of the country’s most treasured yet rapidly disappearing textile traditions. Working with artisans who still preserved this centuries-old knowledge, the collection traced the heritage of muslin from its historic global prominence to its modern-day revival.

The show was met with widespread acclaim, establishing the Rina Latif label while playing a pivotal role in reviving muslin through contemporary fashion. It also helped lay the foundation for the growth of Bangladesh’s modern fashion industry. Unfortunately, the success led to widespread counterfeiting, prompting the label to step away from hosting major fashion shows in Bangladesh for many years.

In April 2018, the label returned with its first major presentation since 2002, unveiling “An Odyssey into Imagination – Thirty Years of Rina Latif,” a celebration of three decades of creativity, craftsmanship, and artistic excellence.
